Well this is an unexpected post.

P&M has officially terminated our advertising relationship with Google effective this evening. This might sound as strange to many of you as it initially did to me, but after consultation with Powers we feel this is the proper decision for the site.

I think the best way to explain the situation, would be the way I explained it to Google. Below is my letter:

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to review my
message. It's always nice to have a real person on the
other end of these email conversations :)

I have also reviewed our account stats, heavily. The
only thing I can find in there that you might deem
'suspect' would be Blogmad. Your terms and conditions
are carefully worded, but I as a member of the Blogmad
community do not feel they relate to the site.

I think you do though. I appreciate your position, on
not being able to be more specific about what it is
that's bothering Google about our ad sense activity.

I want to assure you, just as a person, that I am
absolutely certain of where our hits come from, I track
my site well. I know we aren't getting any pay to
click or auto click links, and I'm also certain that I
as the site's programmer have never clicked on an ad
impression, nor have I encouraged others to do so.

Therefore, knowing all X and Y, I can solve for Z, and
from my end the only variable that is left is blogmad.

It is unfortunate that your stance on this matter is
ill-informed. Many of my writers and readers are from
that community, and our site is not willing to write
them off. We're about people here, not money, and I
can assure you that these are real people, LOTS of
them, and they matter to us and to our writing staff.

I must state to, that I really like Google. Outside of
this experience, I've agreed with many of your
company's decisions, and have argued on your company's
behalf in my column during the period where the NSA's
requests for information from your company was heavily
featured in the news.

That being said, we sadly can no longer continue to
utilize your services. We're not trying to 'dupe'
anyone, and none of us want to be accused of misleading
your advertisers. Our readers, both those from BlogMad
and from without are a valuable source of advertising
market for Google. We are sorry that you don't
understand this.

I would sincerely recommend to you, creating an account
at blogmad to feature one of the Google Blogs. See for
yourself what a rich and diverse community uses the
site. Experience the fact that there is zero financial
involvement from anyone at all, and that millions of
people come together simply for the joy of online
communication. Learn that people use the internet to
share themselves, and to share in other peoples
adventures. Take notes. Understand that not only is
this not a bad thing, it's a GREAT MARKET full of
actual people that look at advertising!

Seriously.

It's a shame that our business relationship must come
to an end, especially based upon a fundamental
misunderstanding.

I'll be pulling all of the adsense advertising from P&M
this evening (1.17.07). The ads will all be down by
midnight tonight Pacific Time. I would appreciate
receipt of whatever funds we have so far been able to
accrue mailed to the registered and verified address
for our account.

We wish you well in your future business dealings,

-Nathan Morrison

We will be replacing the space that Google Ads once occupied on the site within the coming week. If you're looking to advertise your political voice, let us know!

Thats a shame, alot of site have been hit like that because of the surfing which should not be counted against them. I dont have google ads anymore either. I use kanoodle and they have no problems with the traffic sites.
